The sky is the limit for our buddy Boris. We met him a year ago sitting on a stack of quality tunes and during 2009 he simply blew up, resulting in him finding a well deserved spot in the Hospital hall of fame by the end o the year. This new track ‘escape’ is set to be released on his debut album, due this year. Fire!
Okay people, this is what happens when the national radio asks you to curate the dubstep side of things on their station: You do the best you can to look out for tunes that are really on the forefront of futuristic dance music, but at the same time they must have some sort of radio-friendly value. It’s not always easy to distinguish those. Every week I put a lot of effort in listening, evaluating and selecting the tracks which (in my personal opinion) will be appreciated by people who are new to the genre as well as the hardcore dubheads.
This means that many releases will be left out. So I decided to do a monthly mix and include the music that just didn’t make it to radio show, but deserve some attention nonetheless. (I did chip in some of the bigger tracks that did make it on-air, however) You can expect a mix like this every last week of the month, starting now. Enjoy!
tl:
- Skream - Repercussions of a razorblade
- ST Files - Be good
- Nasa - Verbal

On a side note, The third track featured in this mix is a by new belgian venture called NASA, Hailing from Leuven (Probably rings a bell for most of you when you look at your Stella Artois beer label) they are bound to rear international heads in the future. Progressing wonderfully guys, you have my support!
This Antwerp based duo (Dennis Nesen & Maarten Dekort) is one of our country’s finest.
They will soon be releasing their debut EP through the Untitled! recordlabel and their music is on high rotation on all the major radiostations such as Studio Brussels and Sub FM.
At the young age of 20 they’ve already played alongside pioneers such as Mala, Coki, Loefah, Hatcha, Pinch and many more. Guaranteed bassweight.
I asked these guys to do an exclusive mix for Select@Stubru and boy, did they deliver… the whole board is being covered in this beautiful combined effort of styles which happens to form a wonderfully coherent masterpiece of a dj-set. To top it off they have decided to grant us a free digital download of their exclusive single “Heal My Hurts”. Enjoy the mix, and the tune. Big up the Antwerp massive!

The Guys at Studio Brussel have asked me to compile a “best of 2009″ dubstepmix, so here it is. It was fairly hard to include every relevant tune, so I have made the choice to leave a couple obvious ones out (5 yrs Hyperdub, Wild Angels, Kryptic Minds, which all deserve a honorable mention however) and chip in some noteworthy Belgian productions. The mix can be streamed from the Stubru-website but as of today you can download the full mp3 from here. Enjoy!

This wednesday, Kirsten and I will be joined by the film crew responsible for the Belgian dubstep documentary dBstep, which will premiere this friday right before the launch of Untitled’s 3rd birthdayparty at zaal Hof Ter Lo in Antwerp.
The guys will talk about the ideas behind their project, some of their favourite Belgian dubsteptunes and a sneak preview of some juicy bits that made it to the final cut.
We have also invited the Untitled-Crew to the studios, who will be looking back at dedicating three years of their recent lives to spreading the dubstep vibes in Belgium. They will be giving away a very special present as well, so make sure you tune in to Studio Brussel this Wednesday, november 4 from 22pm onwards!
So I’ve decided to provide you with a direct link to the Select pages. Every week I’ll be bringing some highlights, new releases and gossip to the Studio Brussel Studio.
This week’s episode saw the latest release (and a little retrospective) on Dub & Run’s outings on their own label, the new and very charming single by old-time veteran Tony Thorpe aka The Moody Boyz and an interview with Rusko, courtesy of the Mad Decent crew.
Also, If you’re into glitchy neo-hop and the likes, make sure you visit Music in Mind at the Concertgebouw in Bruges this friday. They’ve invited none other than Rustie, Nosaj Thing (first gig ever in Belgium) and Sweden’s Little Dragon.
Sub Focus‘ new album dropped on October 12th, and this time he’s expanding his musical boundaries beyond the realm of drum & bass. “Could this be Real” is a dancefloor smasher not clinging to any genre, as it sits pretty in any record crate around 140 bpm. Loving this one, mashup businesss!
Always a pleasant surprise when you’re browsing the facebook pages and happen to land on that one special track that will set your musical standard for weeks to come. Yes folks, i said weeks, this is 2009 after all. When you’re being bombarded with countless music blogs and about a million new releases every week, consider yourself lucky to feel the same excitement you experienced when you saved up money to buy a new CD and keeping it close to your heart for god knows how long. Gone are the days.
Yet this is one of those typical “let me just put that on repeat and while I’m at it burn it on a CD to listen to in the car”-type tune. Thank you Netsky, Miike Snow can be proud.
